The Republic of Slovenia is one of the smallest countries in Central Europe. Slovenia borders Italy on the west, Austria on the north, Hungary on the northeast and Croatia on the south. Slovenia covers an area of 20,273 square kilometres and has a population of 2.06 million.

Slovenia is an independent country from 1991. Slovenia has stabilized its international position and reputation of democratic, stable and successful European country, which strives for national integrity and identity, and at the same time for preservation of natural and cultural heritage.

Slovenia became a fully authorized member of the European Union in 2004.
